Yacht engines: inspections, servicing, shaft line and corrosion

Periodic inspections and engine servicing, the shaft line, protection against electrolytic corrosion, winterising and pre-season checks. Sardinia, Mallorca.

The engine as part of the whole yacht

The engine, shaft and electrical system are connected. Weak alternator charging, anodes that disappear fast or corrosion on the shaft often have an electrical cause. That is why we service the engine together with what surrounds it.

What we do

Periodic inspections and servicing. Work following the manufacturer's service schedule: oil and filters, cooling system and raw-water pump, belts, fuel system, checks for leaks and mounts.

Shaft line. Inspection and servicing of the propeller shaft line. Faults found during the inspection are documented and the repair is planned.

Electrolytic corrosion. Leakage current measurement, choosing and replacing anodes, checking bonding and shore power. This is where engine servicing meets electrics.

Winterising and pre-season. Full winterising of the yacht including the engine, and in spring recommissioning and a pre-season check.

We do not do major engine overhauls. If an inspection shows one is needed, we tell you plainly and help you plan the next steps.

How a job works

  1. Message us on WhatsApp: yacht, marina, symptom or scope of work, equipment model.
  2. We agree the scope, parts and date. We can bring the parts or help you buy them.
  3. A deposit on labour is due before work starts.
  4. Work on board and a test, ideally with you present.
  5. A report of the work and a 12-month warranty on labour.

Which engines do you service?

Engines of sailing and motor yachts from various manufacturers. Before we come we ask for the make and model so we can prepare the parts.

Why do my anodes disappear so fast?

Often the cause is current leakage or shore power without galvanic isolation. We measure it on site and remove the source instead of just replacing anodes.

Do you winterise engines?

Yes. We do full winterising of the yacht including the engine, and recommissioning and a check before the season.

Do you do major overhauls?

No. If an inspection shows one is needed, we tell you and help you plan the next steps.

Do you supply parts?

Yes. We can bring the parts with us or help you buy them.
